Through participation in our co-curricular sheep showing and judging program, students develop practical animal management skills while caring for an on-campus flock of dual-purpose Corriedale sheep.
Students have the opportunity to participate in agricultural, sheep and wool shows held throughout the academic year, including events such as the . At these events, students are responsible for preparing and presenting their sheep for judging in breed classes, with animals judged on wool quality, structural conformation and meat production characteristics. Students may also enter junior judging and handling competitions, where individual animal handling and assessment skills are evaluated.
The program provides students with practical experience in animal husbandry and exposure to sheep and wool industry standards. It also contributes to students’ understanding of livestock production systems and pathways into agricultural and livestock management industries.
